A minor dispute in Bengaluru reportedly spiralled into a violent confrontation, with a motorist alleging he was chased and assaulted by autorickshaw drivers on Wednesday.
According to a post shared on X by Shriraj Bhardwaj (31), a resident originally from Rajasthan’s Ajmer, the incident on Sarjapur Road took place around 8.20 pm while he and a colleague were driving home. Bhardwaj claimed their car briefly brushed against an autorickshaw that was allegedly travelling on the wrong side of the road. He said there was no visible damage, but the situation quickly escalated.
He wrote, “The auto driver started aggressively chasing us, trying to block our car multiple times in moving traffic, hitting the vehicle and attempting to open the doors. We chose not to engage and instead tried to reach a safe place. Then it escalated further. Another auto bearing registration number KA-01-AS-8794 joined him. Together, they blocked our path near Sarjapur bridge. One of them picked up a concrete stone and smashed our windshield while we were still inside."
Man Alleges Assault Inside RGA Tech Park, Share Videos
Bhardwaj said they drove towards RGA Tech Park hoping to find safety inside the gated campus, but the drivers allegedly followed them there and assaulted them. “We somehow managed to reach RGA Tech Park, thinking a gated office space would mean safety…Before I could even step out of the car, I was physically assaulted and repeatedly hit in the face, leaving me injured," he stated in the post.
He said the situation eased only after the main accused fled, while the second driver apologised when police reached the spot. Bhardwaj later described the incident as more than just road rage and said he was considering leaving Bengaluru after the experience.
“…I am going to leave Bengaluru and never come back. If this is the state of our roads, then something is seriously broken. Stay alert. Avoid confrontation. And most importantly, don’t assume you’re safe just because you’ve done nothing wrong," he added.
In his post, he also shared dashcam videos that he said showed the autorickshaw coming from the wrong direction, chasing the car, and damaging the windshield, along with a medical report from a private hospital where he received treatment.
Police File NCR
Police at Bellandur Police Station confirmed that a non-cognisable report (NCR) was filed and the autorickshaw driver had been traced. Officers said they had been trying to contact the complainant for the past three days to record his statement, but he informed them that he was out of state and was yet to visit the station.
The autorickshaw driver, however, alleged that his vehicle was damaged and claimed he had tried to stop the car to resolve the matter, but the occupants did not halt, which he said led to the confrontation.
