Uttar Pradesh MLA, Pooja Pal, representing Kaushambi’s Chayal assembly constituency, has written a letter to Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, expressing fear for her life and holding him and the party responsible if she is harmed or killed.

Pal, who was recently expelled from the Samajwadi Party, said in the letter that her husband, Raju Pal, was murdered in broad daylight and the party supported the accused instead of helping her family. She claimed she is now receiving threats and fears she could face the same fate.

“If I am murdered, the real culprit will be Akhilesh Yadav. My husband was killed in broad daylight, and instead of standing with us, the SP shielded the criminals. Today, I am receiving threats and I fear the same fate,” she said.

She also said that she had faith in Akhilesh Yadav’s leadership and expected justice, but was disappointed. She accused the party of favouring certain communities and ignoring backward castes, extremely backward castes and Dalits.

“I believed Akhilesh Yadav would fight against criminals and deliver justice, but the reality was the opposite. In SP, backwards, extremely backwards and Dalits are treated as second-class citizens. Only Muslims are considered first-class, even if they are hardened criminals,” she alleged.

Recalling her husband’s killing in Prayagraj, she said he was chased and shot in public and later targeted inside a hospital with an automatic weapon. She said that under the Samajwadi Party government, no justice was done and the party leadership supported those accused in the case.

She credited the current BJP government for taking action and punishing the culprits. “Akhilesh Yadav did nothing to ensure justice or dignity for the family. Instead, the Samajwadi Party and the Saifai family always stood by the murderers. It was only under the BJP government that the culprits were punished,” she added.

In the letter, Pal also questioned her expulsion from the party while highlighting that while she was removed from the party for allegedly working for a BJP candidate in Rajya Sabha elections, many party leaders had themselves supported BJP candidates in the past without consequences.

Furthermore, she said her removal was unfair and discriminatory, and accused party workers of threatening and abusing her on social media. She said again that if she is murdered, Akhilesh Yadav and the Samajwadi Party should be held responsible.

Pal said she belongs to an extremely backward caste and will continue to fight for justice. She said she will not bow down to pressure or fear.

Pal was expelled from the Samajwadi Party on August 14 for breaching party discipline. The action came after she praised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s law and order policies during the monsoon session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly and reportedly voted in favour of BJP candidates in the 2024 Rajya Sabha elections.

Following her expulsion, Akhilesh Yadav reportedly told her to seek a BJP ticket. She is a three-time MLA and widow of former BSP legislator Raju Pal.
