VILLUPURAM: MDMK general secretary Vaiko said he never wanted his son Durai Vaiko to enter politics, but a vast majority of the party functionaries wanted him to take a political plunge. “Out of 106 functionaries, 104 wanted him to join politics. Now, those who said Durai must enter politics were not blamed, whereas only I am blamed for paving the way for dynastic politics,” Vaikai said while addressing the party’s Villupuram zonal functionaries meeting.Responding to his critics that the MDMK had collapsed, he said he had witnessed many betrayals in his political career. “Betrayals are nothing new to me,” he said.

He regretted that rumours were doing the rounds that MDMK was holding talks with the BJP and demanding a Union minister post for his son. “Our alliance with the DMK is to prevent the BJP from gaining a foothold in Tamil Nadu. If RSS, BJP, and Hindutva forces enter Tamil Nadu, it will be disastrous,” he said.
