US President Donald Trump on Wednesday reiterated his claim that he helped settle the conflict between India and Pakistan, while also suggesting that he should have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Trump claimed the confrontation between the two neighbours could have turned “nuclear".

Back in May 2025, India and Pakistan engaged in a week-long exchange of strikes and attacks, following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent retaliation by New Delhi.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One at Royal Air Force Mildenhall in the United Kingdom, Trump said: “Think of it, India and Pakistan. That war was raging. They were a week into it. Eleven planes were shot down, and that war was going to go nuclear."

Time and again, the US President has claimed that he settled the war between India and Pakistan –– a claim New Delhi has repeatedly denied, asserting that the conflict came to a halt through direct communication between the militaries of the two nations.

Recalling accolades from Shehbaz Sharif, Trump said the Pakistan Premier had praised him for what he described as his “role in ending the conflict" and “saving 30 to 50 million lives".

“The Prime Minister of Pakistan said President Trump saved 30 to 50 million lives. Well, guess what? Could have been a lot more than that," he said.

‘I Should Have Won The Nobel Prize’

President Trump repeated his claim that he settled eight wars –– including those between Azerbaijan and Armenia as well as Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda –– saying that he resolved the conflicts because of a “certain type of personality".

He made the remarks while answering a query about Venezuelan opposition leader Marina Corina Machado, saying the US had not prevented her from returning to Venezuela in the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes.

“I should have won that award more than anybody who ever received the Nobel Peace Prize because nobody settled wars. I settled eight of them because of a certain type of personality. I was able to settle," the US President said.

Reiterating that he threatened the neighbouring nations with a “200 per cent tariff" while asking them to pause the war. “I said, if you keep fighting, I’m going to put a 200 per cent tariff on your country. Said the same thing to the other. I did it with India and with Pakistan."
