German World Cup-winner Thomas Muller, who joined MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps in the ongoing transfer window following his departure from boyhood club Bayern Munich, heaped praise on Inter Miami star Lionel Messi.

The 35-year-old German called the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner the best player the game has seen, and recollected memories of going up against Messi in the past.

Muller and Messi have met numerous times at club and international level, with each player coming out trumps on various occasions. While Muller has been on the right side of Bayern’s famous decimation of Barcelona in the UCL, Messi has also tasted victory against the Bavarian giants during his time a Catalunya.

“In the end, I don’t know why it worked out often enough," Muller began.

“We have also had big defeats against Barcelona, such as the one in 2015 where they went on to win the Champions League," he added.

“To be honest, for me, Messi is the greatest player we have in this game," the German forward revealed.

“We always have this Cristiano and Messi discussion, and they both are crazy. But, Messi was a little bit more elegant," Muller opened up.

“I think in the first ten years of my career, I went for Cristiano if there was a GOAT debate, but now I’m a little bit older, a little bit more romantic and I go for the style more than just the performance or work ethic and so on," the new Vancouver recruit said.

Muller added that Messi leading Argentina to their third World Cup title in Qatar cemented his legacy as the greatest of all time, before concluding with a hilarious joke.

“And after Messi won the World Cup with Argentina, I go for him,"

“But I will hunt you again," Muller joked staring right into the camera before bursting out into laughter.
