IAF airlifts Chhattisgarh man stranded 12 hours in flooded Shabari river in Bastar

Raipur: A man stranded for more than 12 hours in the swollen Shabari river near Nadigufa–Telavarti was rescued by a joint team of Indian Air Force (IAF)

Sukma district administration, police and CRPF on Monday. According to the administration, local police and relief teams reached the spot soon after receiving information, but strong currents and large boulders made it impossible to extract the victim using motorboats. Assessing the risk, officials deployed drones to fix the man’s location and called in an IAF rescue unit. After an operation that stretched for several hours, the combined teams succeeded in airlifting the stranded civilian to safety. Collector Devesh Kumar Dhruv said the outcome reflected seamless coordination and swift action: “The rescue was the result of close coordination and the stranded person was evacuated safely.” Authorities said the mission was challenging amid flood conditions along the Shabari river, where water levels and flow remain high following recent heavy rain.
