Jamshedpur: The security forces defused an improvised explosive device (IED) in Saranda forest in West Singhbhum district on Wednesday, the police said on Thursday.SP Amit Renu said the IED was unearthed during a combing operation on the Edalbera-Babuldera stretch within Jaraikela police station limits deep inside the forest.“Soon after the IED was discovered, a bomb disposal squad (BDS) was immediately pressed into the job, and the bomb was defused in a controlled manner,” the SP said. Renu said the IED was planted by the Maoists to target the security forces.Notably, two security personnel were injured in the IED blast in Saranda forest in Chhotanagra police station limits on March 1. Earlier, on February 21, two CRPF personnel were hurt in the IED explosion in Chhotanagra police station limits.Two people were killed in the IED blast in Jaraikela police station limits on Feb 10. On Jan 22, security forces struck killed 15 Maoists, including Patiram Majhi alias Anal, in an operation in the district.
