State secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI) Binoy Viswam has dared the Election Commission of India (EC) to take action against Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi if it can prove that Mr. Gandhi was wrong.

If the EC cannot prove Mr. Gandhi wrong and take action against him, then the Commission should dissolve itself. The EC’s job is to ensure that elections are held free and fair in this country and a constitutional body that cannot fulfil this obligation should make way for others. All constitutional bodies of the nation are being used as a toy by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to serve its own interest, Mr. Viswam said, while inaugurating the CPI’s rally here on Thursday, held as part of the party’s district meet.

Mr. Viswam said that the trade tariff of over 50% imposed on India by the U.S. President Donald Trump would likely have a significant adverse effect on the State’s fisheries, coir and cashew industries. Yet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thinks nothing of it. Mr. Trump has been talking disparagingly about India again and again and yet Mr. Modi does not even have the courage to speak up for the country, Mr. Viswam, said.

The BJP has no right to speak about the Swadeshi movement as the party has wholly surrendered before Mr. Trump, he added.

He said that the Congress was batting as the BJP’s B or C team and that their MP Shashi Tharoor was waiting for the right opportunity to leave the political party formed by Mahatma Gandhi to join Godse’s party.

He taunted Union Minister Suresh Gopi for his total silence over the issue of prosecution of nuns in Chhattisgarh, though he had been very eloquent when going from church to church with cake and “gold crown,” seeking votes.

Senior CPI leaders also spoke at the public meeting.
