A bizarre theft with an unexpected comic twist has surfaced in Jaisalmer, leaving both residents and police amused. Unlike routine burglaries where thieves make a quiet escape, this incident from the IGNP Colony has turned into a talking point across Rajasthan due to the intruder’s unusual post-theft antics.

The theft took place at the government residence of Assistant Engineer (AEN) Sohan Jangid, who was out of town on official work at the time. Taking advantage of the empty house, the accused broke open the locks and stole a laptop, a television set, expensive perfume and costly clothes.

However, what followed has set this case apart from an ordinary burglary. Before leaving, the thief picked up a lipstick from the dressing table and used the white walls of the house as a canvas, scribbling messages that left police officers chuckling when they arrived at the scene.

One of the messages read, “If you keep alcohol at home, you should also keep potato chips!" The line suggested that the intruder not only noticed the liquor in the house but also consumed it, apparently irked by the absence of snacks.

The note then took a dramatic turn, mocking the police and the system. The thief wrote, “If you complain at the police station, it will be a waste of time… Don’t report it, you forget me and I’ll forget you."

Signing off as “Bihari Babu", the intruder added a personal and emotional touch, claiming he had eaten the homeowner’s food and enjoyed it. He stated that the theft was committed out of compulsion and that it was his first such act. The message ended politely with a “Thank you".

Police officials say the lipstick-written messages indicate that the thief spent a considerable amount of time inside the house. The unusual style of the crime has since gone viral on social media, with many reacting to the thief’s candour and cheeky “advice".

The Jaisalmer police are now on the lookout for this self-styled “literary thief", even as the incident continues to be the subject of amused discussion in the city.
