Four IPS officers in Madhya Pradesh, including an Inspector General of Police and a Deputy Inspector General, were transferred over what Chief Minister Mohan Yadav Sunday called “regrettable public conduct”.
In a post on X, CM Yadav said, “The Superintendent of Police of Katni and the Superintendent of Police of Datia, and IG, DIG Chambal Range have behaved in a manner which is regrettable in public service. For this reason, I have given instructions to remove them with immediate effect.”
The Home department has issued transfer orders for 10 senior police officers in the state. Among them was also Sagar IGP Pramod Verma, who is heading the Special Investigation Team formed to probe Tribal Affairs Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah over his comments on Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. The police have however maintained that “this is a routine transfer and has nothing to do with the Vijay Shah case”.
Highly placed sources in the police department told The Indian Express that DIG (Chambal) Kumar Saurabh, IG (Chambal) Sushant Kumar and Virendra Kumar, SP, Datia were transferred over not being able to control crowd during the virtual inauguration of the Datia airport on May 31. Sources said that there was also an argument which almost escalated to a physical confrontation between IG (Chambal) Kumar and SP Datia, and was also a cause for the transfers.
“Both the officers were present at Datia airport during the inauguration by Prime Minister (Narendra Modi). IG Chambal made a remark to the SP Datia over crowd control arrangements and the SP retorted. The two officers began arguing and it almost got physical. This happened in front of the public and the news reached the CM. DIG (Chambal) Kumar Saurabh was also present and they were all unable to control the crowd at the airport because of which they were all transferred,” a senior police officer said.
DIG Kumar Saurabh, IGP Kumar and SP Kumar were all transferred to police headquarters in Bhopal, according to the order.
Katni SP Abhijeet Ranjan was another officer who was transferred to Police Headquarters (PHQ), Bhopal. Damoh tehsildar Shailendra Bihari Sharma’s alleged that under instructions from SP Ranjan, his wife Khyati Mishra, also a police officer who was previously posted in Katni district, and other family members were “assaulted” inside a women’s police station after being detained Saturday.

“We have been complaining against the SP for the past eight to nine months. Around 8-10 members of my family were assaulted and the person responsible is SP Ranjan,” Sharma alleged.
Sharma alleged that after his wife’s transfer, the family was packing to move out of the government quarters when the police arrived. SP Ranjan had denied the allegations.
