Indore: The Indian Institute of Technology, Indore, (IIT-I) held its 14th convocation ceremony, conferring degrees upon 807 graduating students across multiple academic programmes.NITI Aayog member and department of science and technology former secretary Abhay Karandikar was the chief guest. The ceremony was presided over by IIT-I Board of Governors chairperson K Sivan and hosted by director Suhas S Joshi.The graduating cohort comprised 111 PhD scholars, 356 BTech students, 146 MTech students, 23 MS (Research) students, 102 MSc students and 69 students from the MSDSM programme.The convocation marked the completion of the first two batches of the MTech in hybrid and electric vehicle technology — offered in partnership with Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles Ltd — and the inaugural batch of the MTech in centre of futuristic defence and space technology.The ceremony saw conferment of seven gold and eight silver medals, along with the best BTech project award. A notable first this year was the Ashok Bansal Memorial Gold Medal, instituted to honour the most outstanding PhD dissertation by a female research scholar across all IIT-I departments in a given academic year. It was awarded to Nabasmita Phukan for her PhD in Electrical Engineering.The President of India Gold Medal went to Madan P for BTech in computer science engineering.
The BUTI Foundation Gold Medal was awarded to Gladys J for MSc in chemistry, while Harpriya Minhas received the VPP Menon Gold Medal for PhD in chemistry. Arpit Kumar Singh was awarded both the Institute All Round Gold Medal and the Agam Prasad Memorial Gold Medal for his PhD in mechanical engineering, and Saurabh Mishra received the Shri Ganti Subba Rao and Smt Ganti Venkata Ramani Award, also for PhD in mechanical engineering.Chairperson Sivan said, “IIT-I continues to rise as a hub of research excellence and innovation, producing graduates who are equipped to address the most pressing challenges of our time.”Director Joshi said, “The milestones we mark this year — including the graduation of pioneering batches in hybrid and electric vehicle technology and defence and space technology — reflect IIT, Indore’s resolve to align its academic vision with the future needs of the nation and the world. I am deeply proud of each graduate and remain committed to nurturing an ecosystem where curiosity, creativity, and excellence flourish.
”The convocation brought together graduating students, their families, faculty, alumni, and industry representatives to mark the occasion.
