IMD forecasts widespread rain across Telangana

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for Telangana, particularly for the northern districts, on Sunday. Hyderabad, too, is likely to witness rainfall in the early hours of Sunday, according to officials at IMD Hyderabad.

Speaking to TOI, the officials said rain-bearing clouds had formed over eastern Telangana, southern parts of Chhattisgarh and adjoining Coastal Andhra Pradesh.“The cyclonic circulation extends between 3.1 km and 4.5 km above mean sea level over Telangana and adjoining regions. Due to this system, we are expecting widespread rainfall across Telangana, especially in the northern districts, including Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem, Asifabad, Mancherial, Nizamabad and Kamareddy, as well as parts of Rajanna Sircilla and Karimnagar.

In eastern Telangana, districts such as Mahabubabad, Jangaon, Siddipet, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Khammam and Suryapet are also expected to witness significant rainfall activity,” IMD Hyderabad said.“We are expecting drizzle to intense spells of rain in Hyderabad and surrounding areas, with the city likely to receive between 2 cm and 3 cm of rainfall,” said Dr A Sravani, scientist at IMD Hyderabad. She added that strong thunderstorm activity is likely over Vikarabad and Sangareddy districts, with rain-bearing clouds expected to move towards Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy districts.

According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), several parts of the state received moderate to heavy rainfall on Saturday. Maripeda in Mahabubabad district recorded the highest rainfall of 80.8 mm between 8.30 am and 1 pm. Other areas that recorded significant rainfall included Perumandla, Sankeesa in Dornakal and Mukundapuram in Maddirala, each receiving 56.3 mm, followed by Peddanagaram in Narsimhulapet with 50 mm of rainfall.Rainfall was also reported from parts of Suryapet, Siddipet, Mulugu, Khammam, Jangaon and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts. The showers brought relief from the heat in several regions, while local authorities are expected to remain alert in low-lying areas if the rainfall continues.
