Friday witnessed intermittent spells of rain across Mumbai with some pockets receiving brief showers, while others remained largely dry
Mumbai: With the initial monsoon surge having weakened temporarily and clear skies making a comeback on Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall to return over the weekend.
The IMD has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for Saturday and Sunday, indicating the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds at isolated places.Friday witnessed intermittent spells of rain across the city with some pockets receiving brief showers, while others remained largely dry.The IMD’s Colaba observatory recorded 5.6mm of rainfall in the 24-hour period ending Friday 8.30am, while the Santacruz observatory did not record any rainfall during the same period.
So far this month, the IMD’s Colaba and Santacruz observatories have recorded a cumulative rainfall of 354mm and 284mm, respectively. Of this, an overwhelming share came during the intense 24-hour spell between June 23 and 24, when Colaba received 247.8mm and Santacruz 224.8mm.Day temperatures, which had dipped below the 30°C mark following the intense monsoon showers on June 23-24, climbed once again on Friday as rainfall activity eased.
The maximum temperatures recorded at the IMD’s Colaba and Santacruz observatories were 31.6°C and 33.6°C, respectively, which were 0.6°C and 2.3°C above normal. In comparison, just a day earlier, the two observatories had recorded maximum temperatures of 28.8°C and 32.2°C, respectively.
The minimum temperatures recorded on Friday were 26.4°C at Colaba and 25.8°C at Santacruz.Meanwhile, water stocks in the seven lakes catering to Mumbai stood at 1.08 lakh million litres, or just 7.53% of the total required quantum of 14.47 lakh million litres, on Friday. On June 26, 2025, the total water stock stood at 5.2 lakh million litres, or 35.97% of the total required storage.
