In a major political development that is set to rock the political landscape of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced a complete and unconditional boycott of the upcoming PoK electoral process. Citing a highly compromised political environment and systemic irregularities, the party leadership declared that it refuses to participate in any polling under the current circumstances, dealing a severe blow to the credibility of the regional democratic exercise.
The party has backed its hardline stance with immediate operational rollbacks. The PTI leadership has officially suspended all ticket distribution processes and completely halted the recommendations of its parliamentary board for the PoK polls. According to an official party directive, all campaign-related activities, public rallies, and formal ticket issuances have been postponed indefinitely until further notice, effectively freezing the party’s entire electoral machinery across the occupied territory.
The decision stems from what the party describes as a total absence of a free, fair, and peaceful electoral environment. The PTI has placed an absolute prerequisite on its return to the democratic fray, demanding an immediate and comprehensive review of the current election schedule. Party coordinators maintained that entering the polls under the prevailing administrative setup would merely legitimise a heavily engineered outcome, rather than reflecting the genuine will of the local populace.
Despite withdrawing from the immediate contest, the PTI emphasised that this boycott does not signal a retreat from its broader regional objectives. The party has urged state authorities to halt the unilateral electoral process and resolve the deep-seated grievances plaguing PoK through mutual understanding, institutional consensus, and open political dialogue.
In its concluding policy statement, the party stressed that its long-term political struggle for the fundamental democratic and constitutional rights of the Kashmiri people will continue unabated outside the legislative assembly. By stepping away from the ballot boxes, Imran Khan’s outfit has deliberately shifted the battleground, throwing the entire PoK administration into a state of acute uncertainty and forcing a massive legitimacy crisis upon the federal establishment.
