An iftar party is usually recognised as an all-male occasion, with the host and the invitees all men. In a first-of-its-kind initiative in Bengal, women are set to hold an iftar party for women on Saturday (March 7, 2026) evening, the invitees being mainly non-Muslims who will get to know more about the month of Ramzan and traditions associated with it.
The event, called ‘2026 Dosti ki Iftar’ and being organised by the Deeniyat Muallima College (located in Santragachi, across the river from Kolkata) and the city-based initiative Know Your Neighbour, intends to “provide a space for women to exchanges their views, and break myths and stereotypes”. The invitees include students and faculty members from several Kolkata colleges.
