Dimapur: Vice-President (VP) CP Radhakrishnan attended the 8th convocation of Nagaland University at its Lumami headquarters in Zunheboto district on Friday, urging the youth of Nagaland to embrace change to succeed in a rapidly evolving global environment.Delivering his convocation address as chief guest, Radhakrishnan told graduates that convocation marks not the end but the beginning of a new journey. He advised students to avoid comparisons with others, stressing that each individual is uniquely gifted, and encouraged them to set clear goals and move forward with purpose.Highlighting India’s diversity and unity, he urged Nagaland’s youth to actively participate in national services. “More and more Nagaland youngsters must participate in UPSC, and you all must get very successful and serve the nation,” he said.
The VP emphasised that unity is the nation’s greatest strength, adding that a Viksit Nagaland would contribute to a Viksit Bharat. He underscored the importance of inclusive development, respect for differences, and peace as prerequisites for progress.Expressing joy at his first visit to Nagaland, Radhakrishnan praised the state’s vibrant culture and resilience. “Nagaland is a living canvas where nature, culture and courage blend in a breathtaking harmony,” he said.
Referring to the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) agreement, he said peace and mutual respect are essential for the state’s overall development.He lauded Nagaland University’s contributions to the northeast, citing achievements such as establishing a cancer research laboratory, preserving indigenous languages and customary laws, and expanding academic reach to ensure quality education across the region.During the convocation, degrees and gold medals were conferred on students. A total of 107 PhD scholars, 825 postgraduates, 846 graduates from professional programmes, and 5,106 undergraduates received their degrees. Altogether, 54 gold medals were awarded for outstanding academic performance.
