Shillong: A function themed “Our Magnificent Meghalaya | Vision 2032” was held on Friday at the PA Sangma Sports Complex in Tura to mark eight years of the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) govt.
CM Conrad K Sangma highlighted the economic progress achieved under his leadership.The MDA assumed office on March 6, 2018, with Conrad Sangma at the helm. He is now the longest-serving chief minister in Meghalaya’s history.“Our journey has been filled with challenges and difficulties. At times it has been painful and certainly not easy. But through the love and support of our citizens, we have been able to overcome most of these challenges,” he said.
Sangma recalled receiving a letter from the Prime Minister on Meghalaya Day (Jan 21), acknowledging the state’s economic transformation and commending its fiscal discipline alongside growth.Reflecting on the govt’s achievements, the CM stressed that while infrastructure development was vital, true progress lay in improving people’s lives. He described the anniversary as a “celebration of service” to the people and urged unity among communities.
“Hatred between tribes or communities can never be the solution. Unity has always been our strength, and we must continue to work together in a spirit of unity to take our state forward,” he said.On the occasion, financial assistance worth around Rs 220 crore was distributed under various schemes. The CM’s Scholarship Scheme for 2025-26, amounting to over Rs 5 crore and benefiting 98,751 students, along with a uniform grant of over Rs 3 crore for 50,000 students through direct benefit transfer, were also released.
