The Indian Army athlete is the reigning Asian champion in both the 5,000m and 10,000m, having completed a historic distance double at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships.

He had earlier won bronze in the 10,000m at the 2022 Asian Games and another bronze in the 5,000m at the 2023 Asian Championships.Known for consistently breaking barriers, Gulveer became the first Indian to run a sub-60-minute half marathon when he clocked 59:42 to finish third at the 2026 NYC Half Marathon. Although the performance could not be recognised as a national record because the point-to-point course was not record-eligible under World Athletics rules, it marked a landmark achievement for Indian distance running.He also became the first Indian to run a sub-four-minute mile, clocking 3:55.63 at the Music City Track Carnival in the United States. He is also the first Indian to break the 13-minute barrier in the 5,000m, owning the national record of 12:59.77, while his 27:00.22 remains the Indian national record in the 10,000m. He also holds the national record in the 3,000m.With the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games on the horizon, the 28-year-old continues to spearhead India's rise in global distance running.
