India remains in favour of peace, dialogue, advocates de-escalation: Jaishankar on Middle East war

.As war rages in Middle East, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar Monday underscored that India remains in favour of peace and continues to believe that dialogue and diplomacy is the only solution to such crises. He added that his nation advocates de-escalation, restraint while ensuring safety of the civilians in the West Asian countries.

Speaking in Rajya Sabha about the Indian nationals stuck in the Middle Eastern countries due to suspension of multiple flights from the region, he said every effort is being made to bring them back. “Contacts with Iran at the leadership level are obviously difficult at this time; I have spoken to Iranian Foreign Minister,” he said, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to closely monitor developments in the region.

“Government has been assessing situation in West Asia continuously since the conflict broke out. Developments in West Asia deep cause for concern for all of us,” he said.

“India remains in favour of peace, return to dialogue & diplomacy; advocate de-escalation, restraint, ensuring safety of civilians. We continue to believe dialogue and discussion should be used to resolve all issues, says MEA Jaishankar on West Asia conflict.”
