The recent Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, which claimed several lives, has cast a spotlight on the safety record of Indian aviation. As the industry grapples with the aftermath of the tragedy, a string of alarming incidents has raised concerns about aviation safety in India, with technical snags causing emergency landings, flight cancellations, and near-misses.

The recent spate of incidents, such as from faulty baggage doors to malfunctioning landing gear or technical snags, has left passengers shaken and the industry scrambling for answers.

Here are some of the recent incidents where aircraft have made emergency landings, been diverted, or delayed due to technical snags.

Flight 6E 813, operating from Goa’s Dabolim airport, reported the issue during the approach to Indore. The aircraft landed without incident and will undergo mandatory checks before being cleared for further operations.

  • An IndiGo aircraft en route to Imphal returned to the national capital on July 17 due to a technical snag after being airborne for an hour.
  • A Hyderabad-Tirupati SpiceJet flight returned to the city on June 19 shortly after takeoff due to a snag. Flight SG 2696, which was scheduled to depart at 6.10 AM, was expected to land in Tirupati at 7.40 AM. However, it returned and landed back at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport shortly after takeoff.
  • An IndiGo flight en route to Lucknow from Chandigarh was cancelled on June 22 after the pilot identified a technical issue during pre-flight checks, marking yet another instance of flight cancellations.
