UP woman dies after being set on fire by her husband, in-laws over dowry
A woman in Greater Noida, Nikki, was allegedly burnt alive by her husband, Vipin Bhati, and his family after nine years of marriage. The incident, which took place in front of her seven-year-old son, is the culmination of years of alleged dowry harassment. Nikki's sister, who is married into the same family, stated that the abuse began just months after their weddings in 2016. "Six months after our marriage, we were being tortured. My sister had no respect for us," she said. Despite interventions, the abuse reportedly worsened, ending in Nikki's death. This case highlights the persistent issue of dowry-related violence in India, where over 6,000 such deaths are recorded annually. While the husband has been arrested, the in-laws are reportedly absconding.
