Indian-born Jai Mundra named in Ireland squad for T20I series against India

Indian-born bowling all-rounder Jai Mundra has received his maiden international call-up for Ireland, earning a place in the national squad for the upcoming T20I series against India.Hailing from Tonk district in Rajasthan, the 28-year-old's selection has sparked celebrations among his family and hometown. Mundra was named in Ireland's 14-member squad for the two-match T20I series, setting up the possibility of an international debut against the country of his birth.Mundra moved to Ireland in 2021 on a student visa to pursue an M.Tech degree. Alongside his studies and later his professional career, he continued to pursue cricket and steadily progressed through the ranks.

After obtaining Irish citizenship in 2025, his consistent performances helped him catch the attention of selectors and earn a place in the national team.

Speaking to reporters, his mother Vidya Mundra expressed her delight at the achievement."Everyone is very happy. His childhood dream is coming true. It's a special feeling. Everyone is calling and coming to visit. We're all thrilled for him. He was studying and then got a job, but he always focused on cricket.

He's been working hard and caught the eye of the selectors," she said.India's tour of Ireland will feature a two-match T20I series from June 26 to June 28, 2026, with both games set to be played at the Stormont Cricket Ground in Belfast. The series will see Shreyas Iyer lead India in T20Is for the first time, while Lorcan Tucker will captain a youthful Irish side.
