What has changed

Previously, passengers were required to request a change in their boarding station at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train. This change would then be reflected in the first reservation chart. Missing this deadline often meant forfeiting the flexibility, even in genuine situations. Now, the release states, “The existing rule for change of boarding point involved a request 24 hours prior to the train journey which will get reflected in the first charts.

Now, with this latest change in the rules, the boarding point change can be done upto 30 minutes before departure of the train, which will get reflected in the second chart.”

Passenger-centric approach

The facility is especially useful to passengers whose initial booking of tickets is done from one station but later realize that it is easier to board the train from another station. This may be due to various reasons, including changes in travel plans or due to other logistical issues.By extending the deadline for modifying the boarding point, Indian Railways has effectively addressed a long-standing concern among passengers. This facility ensures that passengers do not lose their reserved accommodation due to their inability to board the train from the initial point chosen by them.

Ease of access

The new system is very smooth and can be done by passengers through either PRS counters or through the IRCTC website and app.
