Indian Skeet Shooters Fail To Reach Finals At ISSF Shotgun World Cup

Indian skeet shooters Mairaj Khan, Anant Naruka, and Bhavtegh Gill failed to reach the ISSF Shotgun World Cup finals.

Indian skeet shooters delivered disappointing performances on the third day of qualification rounds, with none of them advancing to the finals of the ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Lonato on Tuesday.

In men’s skeet, 49-year-old veteran marksman Mairaj Ahmad Khan, one of the senior-most shotgun shooters still competing professionally, had rounds of 24, 25, 24, 25, and 23 over three days, totalling 121/125 and finishing 34th.

Olympian Anant Jeet Singh Naruka scored 24, 24, 24, 23, and 24, ending with 119 points and placing 64th in a field of 176 shooters. Bhavtegh Singh Gill also totalled 119 (23, 25, 25, 25, 21), finishing 75th.

Vincent Hancock of the USA won gold with a score of 26 in the final, having aggregated 124 in the qualification round. Daniel Korcak of the Czech Republic claimed silver with 24 in the title round, while his compatriot Jakub Tomecek secured bronze with 24.

How Did Indians Perform?

In women’s skeet, Paris Olympian Maheshwari Chauhan posted scores of 24, 22, 22, 25, and 23, totalling 116 and placing 31st among the Indians.

Ganemat Sekhon scored 20 out of 25 in the fifth and final round of qualification, totalling 116 (23, 25, 24, 24, 20) and finishing 35th. Another Olympian, Raiza Dhillon, scored 22, 23, 24, 24, and 22, ending with 115 and placing 40th in a field of 78 shooters.

Samantha Simonton, who aggregated 120 over five rounds of qualification, shot 56 in the final to win gold, while compatriot Dania Jo Vizzi claimed silver with 53. Jiang Yiting of China settled for bronze with 45.
