IndiGo, India’s largest airline, on Thursday announced a compensation package for passengers severely impacted by widespread operational disruptions between December 3 and 5. The carrier said it will issue travel vouchers worth Rs 10,000 to passengers whose flights were cancelled or delayed for extended hours during this period.
The airline said the vouchers will be valid for 12 months and can be redeemed against any future IndiGo flight. This compensation is being offered over and above the mandatory payout required under DGCA norms for cancellations within 24 hours of departure.
“This compensation is in addition to the commitment under the existing government guidelines, as per which, IndiGo will provide compensation of Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 depending on the block time of the flight, to those customers whose flights were cancelled within 24 hours of departure time,” the statement said.
Who gets IndiGo special voucher
IndiGo stated it “regrettably acknowledges that part of its customers travelling on December 3, 4 and 5 were stranded for many hours at certain airports, and a number of them were severely impacted by congestion”. The airline noted that it is issuing vouchers specifically for such severely affected passengers.
The disruptions have triggered regulatory scrutiny, prompting authorities to instruct the airline to cut its winter schedule by 10% to stabilise operations. Before the disruptions began on December 2, IndiGo was operating around 2,300 flights daily.
