India’s impressive run in the men’s doubles at the Indonesia Open ended on Friday, as Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun bowed out in the quarterfinals with a straight-game loss to seventh-seeded Malaysians Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin.
The Indian duo, ranked world No. 30, were defeated 12-21, 10-21 by the higher-ranked Malaysian pair, who dominated the match to secure a place in the semifinals of the BWF Super 1000 tournament.
Earlier, Arjun and Hariharan had reached the quarterfinals by overcoming Malaysians Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing 16-21, 21-15, 21-19.
This defeat marked the end of India’s campaign at the tournament.
On Thursday, two-time Olympic medallist P. V. Sindhu had lost to world No. 1 An Se Young of South Korea in the women’s singles, while youngster Ayush Shetty exited in the round of 16 after going down to Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu in the men’s singles event.
