Mhow: An 18-year-old youth from Indore drowned in Bamaniyakund waterfall, about 15 km from Mhow, on Sunday evening.Badgonda police station in-charge Prakash Waskale told TOI that the youth, Akash, a resident of Malviya Nagar in Indore, reached Bamaniyakund on Sunday afternoon for a picnic along with his four friends.
All of them were bathing in the waterbody when Akash slipped into deep water and could not swim back to the side.Akash’s friends noticed him drowning and raised the alarm. Residents of Badiya village, about 1.5 km from the spot rushed to his rescue. Some of them jumped into the water.A villager, Devendra Tomar, who jumped into the water, told TOI, “We did not find Akash and it was difficult to search for him further due to darkness.
He might have got stuck in some cavity below.”Police were also informed about the incident. Waskale said an SDRF team was called. But, the rescue and search operation was stopped due to night, and it will continue in the morning.Villagers said every year such drowning incidents occur at Bamaniyakund multiple times.
