Sheena Bora murder case: Vidhie Mukerjea, daughter of Indrani Mukerjea and accused Sanjeev Khanna, told a Mumbai court on Tuesday that her mother was left financially crippled after Peter Mukerjea’s sons allegedly siphoned off her jewellery and bank savings worth over Rs 7 crore.

Vidhie is the daughter of former media executive Indrani Mukerjea and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, both facing trial in the high-profile Sheena Bora murder case. Bora, too, was Indrani Mukerjea’s daughter.

Deposing before Special CBI Judge JP Darekar, Vidhie said that after her mother’s arrest, her ancestral jewellery worth crores and more than Rs 7 crore in savings were taken away by Rahul and Rabin, media baron Peter Mukerjea’s sons.

Indrani Mukerjea separated from Peter Mukerjea in 2017.

“A new locker was opened in the names of Rahul and Rabin Mukerjea to keep the stolen valuables. Without Peter Mukerjea’s consent, they could not have done this."

The witness claimed that the financial betrayal gave Rahul and Rabin a clear motive to frame Indrani in the case.

“They desperately needed money for survival, and had my mother been released, they would have been forced to return everything," she testified.

Vidhie also accused the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of fabricating her statement in the chargesheet. She denied ever recording a formal statement, alleging she was made to sign blank papers and copies of emails at the agency’s office.

“The statement annexed to the chargesheet was never recorded by me. It is forged and fabricated,"* she asserted.

The testimony painted a disturbing picture of family rifts after Indrani’s arrest in 2015.

Vidhie recounted how visiting relatives squabbled over Indrani’s belongings, while Rabin allegedly pressured her to disown her mother in exchange for inheritance rights.

She also recalled that Sheena Bora had initially introduced herself as Indrani’s sister, and tensions within the family began only after Rahul Mukerjea started visiting their Mumbai flat.

According to her, Bora and Rahul were both using drugs, which worsened disputes at home.

The court was reminded of the prosecution’s case that Sheena Bora, 24, was strangled in a car in April 2012 by Indrani, Khanna, and Indrani’s driver Shyamvar Rai (now an approver).

Her body was later burnt and dumped in the Raigad district. The crime surfaced only in 2015 after Rai’s confession.

Vidhie, who was a minor when her mother was arrested, told the court she continues to bear emotional scars. “I was under immense trauma after my mother’s arrest," she said.

Her deposition will continue on Wednesday.
