With monsoon activity intensifying over Hyderabad, officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) reviewed flood preparedness and emergency response arrangements on Sunday.

Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy inspected the Himayatsagar reservoir to assess operational readiness, safety protocols, inter-departmental coordination and overall flood management strategies being implemented by engineering officials.

He instructed authorities to ensure strict compliance with reservoir safety standards and maintain continuous monitoring of inflows and water quality parameters.

Officials were directed to monitor water levels, catchment inflows and turbidity levels on a 24-hour basis to ensure timely decision-making. As of 6 a.m. on Sunday, Himayatsagar recorded an inflow of 800 cusecs and inflows have also begun at Osmansagar reservoir.

Mr. Reddy emphasised the need for real-time coordination with the revenue, police and Municipal Administration departments to ensure public safety and structural integrity of both reservoirs. He also directed officials to provide advance information before any water release or changes in reservoir levels to avoid downstream situations.
