The Insurance Employees’ Union, Branch 2 Ballari, celebrated platinum jubilee of the All India Insurance Employees’ Association (AIIEA) on its 75th foundation day at their branch in Ballari on Tuesday (June 1, 2025).
The event began with Suryanarayana, Secretary of Branch 2, extending a warm welcome to all attendees, including employees, agents, pensioners, and representatives from fraternal trade unions. It was then followed by hoisting the flag of AIIEA by R. Dathatreya, President of Branch 2 Ballari. Veteran pensioners, who once served at Branch 2, unveiled the platinum the jubilee logo on the occasion.
In his address, Mr. Suryanarayana reflected on the significance and legacy of AIIEA which was founded in 1951, prior to the formation of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). He noted AIIEA’s historic role in advocating for the nationalisation of life insurance, a movement that culminated in the creation of LIC in 1956 under the leadership of then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Finance Minister C.D. Deshmukh.
“The AIIEA is not merely a union for workplace rights but one that upholds social responsibilities and commitments. The organisation has consistently extended support during natural disasters, farmers’ movements, and working-class struggles, reinforcing its identity as a union deeply embedded in the broader cause of social justice,” he said.
Senior employees’ leader R. Dathatreya, Branch Manager P. Sampath Kumar, Assistant Manager I.K. Gopal, representatives of the Agents’ Union, K. Shashidhar, General Secretary of the National Federation of Insurance Field Workers of India (Raichur Division), and representatives from fraternal organisations including AIUTUC, BEFI, AIRRBEA (Karnataka Grameena Bank), the Grameena Bank Pensioners’ Association, and the Postal Union were present on the occasion.
As a mark of respect, the union felicitated K.V. Chandrasekhar, the senior-most pensioner of the branch, for his lifelong contributions.
