Panaji: High ethical standards built on integrity and resistance to external pressure result in strengthened trust in the justice system, said Maharashtra governor C P Radhakrishnan on Saturday while speaking about citizens’ faith in the judiciary at the All-India Members Conference 2025 of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT).He also stressed the need for the judiciary to listen to their conscience and find the facts of a case before making a judgement. “The confidence of the taxpayers in the fairness of the system has been built upon strength and credibility. Integrity is a very important quality to have in the judicial system,” he said.Further, he added that the ITAT has evolved as an institution whose decisions influence not only tax jurisprudence but also the broader question of economic governance and the rule of law.
“In our system, if a judge decides to deliver justice, it can be delivered and nobody can stop him. And, ITAT has distinguished itself by delivering justice that is not only legally sound but also citizen-centric, bridging the complexities of the tax law with a focus on clarity, transparency, and timely resolution,” the governor said.Earlier, Justice (Retd) C V Bhadang, the president of ITAT, said that the tribunal made significant strides in the integration of technology in its day-to-day working by providing the facility of e-filing and virtual and hybrid hearings. The conference witnessed discussions on the opportunities and challenges of the use of artificial intelligence in judicial dispensation.
