Less than a month after a “fake embassy" was busted in Ghaziabad, another similar case came into the limelight, where six men were found operating a fake “police station" in Noida to allegedly extort money from people.

The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police on Sunday arrested six men for allegedly misleading people through a bogus office in the name of the “International Police and Crime Investigation Bureau," officials said, as reported by news agency PTI.

Modus Operandi

The accused men identified as Vibhash Chandra Adhikari (27), an arts graduate, Aragya Adhikari (26), a law graduate, Pintu Pal (27), Samapdal (25), Babul Chandra Mandal (27), Ashish Kumar (57) — all natives of West Bengal and were living together in the rented office premises in Sector 70 in Central Noida.

While the first four are residents of Birbhum district, Mandal and Kumar are residents of 24 Parganas and Kolkata, respectively, the police said.

According to the police, the gang had decorated the premises with police-like colours, emblems, and signage. They displayed counterfeit certificates purportedly issued by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the Ministry of Ayush, and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

They used to pose as government officers and used forged IDs, fake insignia, and fabricated documents to extort money. The gang also claimed links with Interpol and the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC), and said they worked on “international crimes and criminals." They also claimed to have an office in the United Kingdom.

How The Gang Was Busted?

Police said the arrests followed a tip-off about suspicious activities at an address in Noida’s Sector 70. Around midnight on Sunday, a raid was carried out at the spot.

The racket was busted and six people were arrested, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Shakti Mohan Awasthy said.

In an official statement, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police took to X and said, “Six accused arrested for fraudulently extorting money from the general public by creating a fake office under the name INTERNATIONAL POLICE & CRIME INVESTIGATION BUREAU in an organized manner, misleading people, falsely posing as government officials, and using police-like colors and logos to influence them."

In a press brief, the DCP Central Noida said that the entire racket had just begun recently. “They used to extort money from people by showing fake documents and logos. They also pretended as government officials to impress people," the officer added.

“The arrested accused made a rent agreement on June 4 and were operating the office for the last 15 days. They also had a website — www.intlpcrib.in — and took donations. Further investigation is on," he said.

Police have seized nine mobile phones, 17 stamp seals, six cheque books, nine identity cards, a PAN card, a voter card, six ATM cards, three types of visiting cards, certificates recognised by ministries and a CPU.

Four boards of the “International Police and Crime Investigation Bureau", Rs 42,300 in cash, and other documents were also seized from the possession of the accused.

A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Information Technology Act and Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act at the Phase 3 police station in Central Noida.
