New Delhi: Apple has decided to reduce the size of the camera island cutout on its upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models. Apple may begin shifting several Face ID components beneath the display, which enables the smaller Dynamic Island cutout compared to the current iPhone models.

Apple has been experimenting with placing all Face ID hardware under the display by leaving only the small circular opening for the front-facing camera.

The full transition is reported to begin, aimed for the future model, possibly the 20th anniversary iPhone, which is expected in 2027. But for now, only the selected components are expected to move under the panel. The upcoming Pro models has expected to unveil around September might to retain the existing pill-shaped design that houses with the TrueDepth camera system and Face ID sensors, but with the smaller overall footprint.

The cutout measures around 13.49mm compared to 20.76mm on the iPhone 17 Pro. The entire iPhone 18 lineup, including the standard and Air 2 variants, could adopt this upgraded, smaller Dynamic Island design. The standard iPhone 18 and the second-generation iPhone Air are expected to arrive in early 2027.

iPhone 18 Pro series is expected to bring incremental design changes, with the latest Deep Red colour option along with existing finishes. Apple’s move to an all-aluminium unibody design, which provides greater flexibility compared to the earlier materials.

Apple might refine the display by shrinking the Dynamic Island, with several Face ID components reported to be moving under the display, resulting in a smaller cutout while retaining the existing system.
