Fresh diplomatic efforts are underway between Iran and the United States, but progress remains slow and uncertain, with tensions still high.

According to a report by NPR, the White House has confirmed that US special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner are planning to travel to Pakistan Saturday for a new round of talks with Iran.

Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday arrived in Islamabad, where Pakistan hosted direct US.-Iran talks earlier this month. But his spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, denied that a direct meeting with the US was planned.

Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance, who led the delegation during the first round of discussions, will not be part of the delegation but is on “standby".

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi met with Pakistani Field Marshall Asim Munir on Saturday. Meanwhile, the delegation from the US is yet to join the peace talks in Islamabad. A report by CCN world said that Trump has announced that Iran will be making an offer to the US. He did not yet know the details, however, and just a day earlier hinted that uncertainty surrounding Iran’s leadership was complicating talks.

US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the United States is in no rush to end the war with Iran but “the clock is ticking" for the Islamic republic.

“I have all the time in the World, but Iran doesn’t — The clock is ticking!" Trump said in a post on Truth Social, adding that Iran’s military was destroyed and “their leaders are no longer with us, the Blockade is airtight and strong and, from there, it only gets worse."

Earlier, Trump had ordered the US Navy to destroy any Iranian boat caught laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz — a key maritime chokepoint that accounts for nearly one-fifth of the global oil and gas trade.
