Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad on Friday, raising expectations of renewed diplomatic engagement between Iran and the United States.

The visit comes amid efforts by Washington to restart negotiations following a fragile pause in hostilities, with US officials describing the trip as part of a broader push for dialogue.

During his stay, Araghchi is expected to meet Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir, alongside senior officials, as Pakistan positions itself as a potential mediator in the talks.

The trip follows parallel diplomatic moves by the US, which recently sent special envoys to Islamabad to explore pathways for resuming discussions with Tehran. Officials said the outreach is aimed at breaking the deadlock and facilitating progress in negotiations.

Araghchi is also expected to continue his regional tour after Pakistan, with planned visits to Moscow and other capitals as part of ongoing diplomatic coordination.

The renewed push for talks comes after earlier attempts in Islamabad failed to produce a breakthrough, highlighting the complexity of negotiations between the two sides.

US officials have indicated that President Donald Trump remains closely involved in the process and is open to engaging at a higher level if meaningful progress is achieved.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said recent developments signal cautious optimism. “We’ve certainly seen some progress from the Iranian side in the last couple of days," she said.

However, significant challenges remain, and it is still unclear whether the latest diplomatic push will lead to concrete outcomes.
