Shahram Irani has said Iran will “very soon” unveil a weapon that adversaries are “deeply afraid of”, issuing a fresh warning amid escalating tensions with the United States and Israel. The Iranian Navy commander said the weapon was close to enemy forces, adding, “And it is right next to them [too]… I hope they won't have a heart attack.”His remarks come as hostilities continue following the conflict that began on February 28, with both sides exchanging military and economic measures, including a US-led blockade and Iranian retaliatory actions in the region.Irani criticised what he described as “unprovoked aggression” and mocked the assumption that pressure tactics would yield quick results.
“That very assumption has now turned into a joke in military academies,” he said.He also claimed Iranian forces carried out “seven missile operations” against the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, which he said temporarily halted American air operations from the vessel. According to him, Iran has launched at least 100 waves of reprisal strikes targeting US and Israeli assets across West Asia.On the maritime front, Iran has tightened its grip over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route.
Irani said Tehran had effectively closed access from the Arabian Sea and warned, “If they move any closer, we will take operational action without delay.” He added that vessel movement is now subject to Iranian approval, though “some vessels have departed from our ports, and some have reached their destinations.
”The commander also accused US forces of “illegal seizure” of Iranian vessels, calling it “piracy” and “hostage-taking.”
“They have taken crewmembers and their families hostage aboard ships,” he said, adding, “The Americans are worse than Somali pirates, because Somali pirates acted out of poverty, but these have added hostage-taking” to their actions.Irani further asserted that Iran’s armed forces would avenge those killed in the conflict “to the last drop of our blood.” “We will afflict a regret-inducing blow to them,” he said. The warning follows a decision by Donald Trump to reject Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for lifting the US blockade. Speaking to Axios, Trump said, “The blockade is somewhat more effective than the bombing. And it is going to be worse for them. They can't have a nuclear weapon.”Iran’s proposal had sought to delay discussions over its nuclear programme while easing maritime restrictions, according to officials familiar with the negotiations. However, Washington’s refusal has prolonged the standoff, with both sides maintaining pressure through military positioning and economic measures.
