Surat: Dileep Sanghani, chairman of Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) has stated that the current shortage of commercial gas in the state of Gujarat has arisen due to the ongoing war situation in the Middle East and the government’s priority is to ensure that the gas supply continues unabated in the household kitchens across the state.
Sanghani visited the diamond city to participate in the Cooperative Conclave 2026 organised by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) at SIECC, Sarsana on Thursday. According to Sanghani, the supply chain has been directly affected by the closure of Hormuz Strait by Iran, due to which there is a severe crisis in petroleum products including LPG gas not only in Gujarat, but pan India.
Clarifying the government’s policy on gas distribution, Sanghani said that domestic gas has been given first priority in the stock available with the government. Under no circumstances should cooking gas be stopped in people’s kitchens. Public interest decisions have been taken to ensure that hospitals and essential services get gas first.
When asked about the problems of small traders who are not getting commercial gas cylinders, Sanghani said that the word ‘commercial’ itself clarifies its category. We have to decide whether it is more serious to keep the business closed or to keep the kitchen closed? The government has given priority to the kitchen, which is a welcome step. Until the war situation calms down, we will have to face this situation with a shared effort.
Amid the shortage of gas cylinders in the market, Sanghani has taken a strict stance on complaints of black marketing and hoarding. He informed that the government has also raided several places on Wednesday and seized the stock. The government is taking very strict action against the blackmarketers and assured that no one will be spared.
Sanghani appealed to the general public that if black marketing or illegal hoarding of gas is seen anywhere, then immediately inform the local supply officer. It is difficult to stop such crimes without the cooperation of the public, so people should be aware and inform the government so that immediate action can be taken against those responsible.
Regarding the government’s upcoming plans to ensure gas availability, he said that all necessary routine arrangements have been made for the smooth distribution of domestic gas through available channels. The government is monitoring the global situation and is making efforts to restore the supply chain.
