IRCTC rolls out e-pantry meal service on 25 trains

Indian Railways has launched an e-pantry service on 25 long-distance trains, primarily in the East Central Railway zone. This new system allows passengers to pre-book meals of their choice for delivery at selected stations, offering flexibility and affordability. Passengers can choose from a wide variety of options, with payments made digitally.

Patna: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched its e-pantry service on 25 long-distance mail and express trains, most of which either originate from or passing through the East Central Railway (ECR) jurisdiction.According to IRCTC New Delhi public relations officer (PRO) V K Bhatti, the newly introduced system allows passengers to pre-book meals of their choice and have them delivered at selected stations en route, offering greater flexibility and convenience during long journey, he said, adding the initiative is designed to cater especially to passengers who prefer customised meals rather than standard onboard catering at the most affordable price.Under the e-pantry model, passengers can choose from a wide range of food options available through IRCTC’s authorised vendors and opt for delivery at designated stations, ensuring freshness and timely service. The facility is expected to enhance passenger satisfaction by giving them better control over their food preferences, Bhatti said, adding passengers travelling by Jayanagar-New Delhi Express (12561/12562), Danapur-Secunderabad Express (12791/12792), Barauni-Ahmedabad Express (19483/19484) and Jayanagar-Lokman Tilak Mumbai Express (11061/11062) will be benefited most by this facility.

Following positive feedback, the e-pantry service may be extended to more trains in the days to come, he said, adding payments can be made online via digital methods, eliminating the need for cash transaction during journey and meal verification code (MVC) is given to all those passengers who book e-pantry service.Passengers can view the details about the e-pantry service at the IRCTC site www.irctc.co.in, Bhatti added.
