Joint Commissioner of the Income Tax department Yogendra Kumar Mishra was suspended on Wednesday (June 4, 2025), six days after he allegedly assaulted a junior officer at an Income Tax office in Lucknow. The suspension order says a criminal case is under investigation against Mr. Mishra, a 2014-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, currently posted in Kashipur, Uttarakhand, as Joint Commissioner of Income Tax.

Mr. Mishra has been attached under the jurisdiction of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCA), West Bengal and Sikkim Region, pending inquiry and directed not to leave the headquarters without prior permission.

The decision comes in the wake of serious allegations by Gaurav Garg, a 2016-batch IRS officer posted in Lucknow as Deputy Commissioner, who accused Mr. Mishra of a violent, premeditated attack on him on May 29 during a closed-door departmental meeting attended by senior officials.

Based on Mr. Garg’s complaint, a case was registered against Mr. Mishra at the Hazratganj police station under various Sections of the BNS. Mr. Garg was seen going for treatment after the alleged attack.
