Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran lashed out at Chief Minister MK Stalin over his apology to the mother of Ajith Kumar. The 27-year-old temple guard, arrested for theft, allegedly died in police custody at Sivagangai district.
In a post on X, Nagendran wrote that he “saw a neatly edited video” of Stalin, referring to footage of the Chief Minister consoling Ajith Kumar’s mother by saying, “Sorry, ma.”
“How is it just to say a single ‘sorry’ after mercilessly killing an innocent young man?” Nagendran asked. He also questioned whether a simple “sorry” could justify the brutal death of an innocent man.
Saying if the Chief Minister was “sincerely apologising out of the goodness of his heart”, there were other such people as well. Nagendran then listed out names of 23 people who either died in custody or under suspicious circumstances since Stalin took office – with ages and their place of death. The list shared by the BJP leader includes custodial deaths from across districts such as Namakkal, Tirunelveli, Chennai, Madurai, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, and others.
“When will Chief Minister MK Stalin hold a photo-video shoot to apologize to the parents, wives, and children of these individuals?” the state BJP chief asked mockingly.
Nagendran said that as the Chief Minister who directly oversees the police department, it is his responsibility to prevent such incidents.
Nagendran ended his post with the hashtag #JusticeForAjithKumar, demanding accountability in the case.
