The 2025 Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort was packed with drama, but one storyline stood above the rest. Racing Bulls rookie Isack Hadjar writing his name into F1 history. The 20-year-old prodigy not only held his nerve against some of the sport’s biggest names but also became the youngest French driver ever to stand on an F1 podium. For Racing Bulls, the result may signal more than just a long-awaited return to glory. It is highly indicative of the emergence of their next star too.
Hadjar’s historic F1 Podium signals a bright future for Racing Bulls
Starting fourth on the grid behind both McLarens and Max Verstappen, Hadjar showed maturity beyond his years. He kept Charles Leclerc and George Russell behind him during crucial phases of the race, showcasing nerves under pressure that belied his rookie status. When Lando Norris retired late on, Hadjar seized the opportunity, crossing the line in third and delivering Racing Bulls their first podium since 2021.
From Alain Prost’s four world championships to the more recent triumphs of Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon, France has a proud Formula 1 heritage. Yet none managed a podium at such a young age. Hadjar’s achievement is not only personal history but also a potential turning point for French motorsport, introducing a new name into the country’s legacy of F1 winners.
Racing Bull Team Boss Alan Permane felt Hadjar's Podium finish was "comfortable"
For Racing Bulls, the podium is a much-needed statement. Team boss Alan Permane admitted he was surprised by how “comfortable” Hadjar looked running near the front.
“After 10 laps, you think, this is going to be okay, we’ve got this,” Permane said after the race. “Fourth was actually pretty comfortable - and to turn that into a podium makes it even sweeter.”The result moves the team to seventh in the Constructors’ standings, just 20 points adrift of Williams in fifth. With both cars showing pace, Liam Lawson was on course for points before a collision with Carlos Sainz. Now the team suddenly looks more competitive than at any stage in the last three years.
Red Bull will keep a closer look at Isack Hadjar
Perhaps the biggest storyline, though, is what Hadjar’s podium means for the future. Red Bull has a history of fast-tracking its brightest talents, from Sebastian Vettel to Max Verstappen. If Hadjar continues to deliver drives of this caliber, it may only be just a matter of time before he’s linked with their senior team. For now, though, Hadjar will be enjoying the moment of being the youngest Frenchman to stand on a Formula 1 podium.
