Israel has denied its involvement in the attack on an aid delivery point in Rafah, southern Gaza, where at least 31 Palestinians were killed on Sunday, and accused Hamas of orchestrating the killings of hungry civilians.

Releasing drone footage of the attack, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said that Hamas is doing “everything in its power" to stop the local population from getting food in Gaza.

“Drone footage shows gunmen in Gaza shooting at civilians going to collect aid. Hamas is doing everything in its power to prevent the successful distribution of food in Gaza," the IDF said on X, adding purported footage of the attack.

A number of claims were made after the attack regarding the attacker. It was initially reported that Israel had carried out the attack.

Gaza’s health ministry claimed that Israeli forces opened fire near the site, which was run by US and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. It further claimed that all those who were killed were shot in the head or chest.

According to CNN, an official in the Palestine Red Crescent Society, claimed that Israeli forces had shot the people.

A medical representative told the media outlet that it was, however, unclear who shot at the Palestinians. The official said that the area was under the control of the Israeli military. “Whether they shoot or others who are working for them, it is still their responsibility," the official said.

The IDF dismissed the allegations and said that no Israeli personnel opened fire at the locals “near or within" the site of attack. The forces also urged the media outlets to be cautious while reporting information shared by Hamas, terming several of them “false reports".

Hamas has dubbed the killings of civilians as a “new massacre against hungry civilians".

The shooting came hours after Hamas sent its reply to the US ceasefire proposal, which the latter termed as “unacceptable".
