Israel has shared intelligence with Washington indicating it had detected a “fresh Iranian plan" to assassinate US President Donald Trump, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The report comes amid renewed fighting between the US and Iran, weakening a three-week-old ceasefire and raising fears of a return to wider conflict.

The escalation has also put pressure on efforts aimed at reaching an interim deal to help end the war in West Asia.

For years, Iran has openly threatened retaliation against Trump over the 2020 US drone strike that killed Qassem Soleimani, the powerful commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, during Trump’s first term.

CNN also reported that Israel had shared a warning with the US about a specific alleged plot. One source told CNN the warning came this week, while another said US intelligence agencies had been tracking a steady flow of information in recent weeks about possible Iranian plans to target Trump. However, the Israeli warning was described as new and linked to a specific plot.
