"It just kind of lingers": Josh Allen’s wife Hailee Steinfeld opened up about writing a song about ex boyfriend Niall Horan

The Buffalo Bills’ star player, Josh Allen, has been happily married to Hailee Steinfeld for the last couple of months now. The high profile couple dated for roughly two years before they decided to take the big step in May 2025. While Josh Allen was in a long term relationship with his ex girlfriend before this, Hailee Steinfeld was also dating One Direction star Niall Horan at one point.

A few years ago, in 2020, the BAFTA nominated actress, Hailee Steinfeld, appeared on SiriusXM Hits 1’s The Morning Mash Up to discuss her then newly released Half Written Story EP.

While discussing about her albums, Hailee Steinfeld touched upon her song “Wrong Direction” which has been speculated to be written about Niall Horan.Hailee Steinfeld said, “I know there are some records that are just, like, you’ll know when you hear them but there’s a song on the record called ‘Wrong Direction,’ which I found more difficult to write than the others just because of … I mean, just being in that headspace.”The BAFTA nominated actress continued, “And what’s so strange about music is you write it and then you’re in that headspace obviously when you’re writing it and then it’s done.”Hailee Steinfeld added, “Then all of a sudden you’re, like, performing and you’re like, ‘OK, this is still very much attached and it’s just like I never left the studio.’ She added, “it’s just a weird feeling to continue revisiting such personal songs…It just kind of lingers until I feel like you’re far enough removed from the situation you’re talking about…”Hailee Steinfeld and One Direction star Niall Horan were rumoured to be together for less than a year.

The two were first spotted in the early half of 2018 and went their separate ways in December 2018.
