WWE legend and 17-time world champion John Cena has addressed the criticism surrounding comments made during the John Cena Classical Tournament, admitting that even he is unsure whether the unique concept will ultimately succeed.
Speaking with US Weekly, Cena addressed the mixed reactions from fans following WWE's announcement of the tournament during last month's WWE Backlash premium live event.The John Cena Classic Tournament is a new WWE event that will feature NXT prospects competing against main-roster stars. Unlike a traditional tournament, the winner will be determined through fan voting, meaning a wrestler could be crowned champion even if they lose their match. Cena revealed that he has drawn inspiration from Arnold Schwarzenegger's bodybuilding competition, the Arnold Classic.

WWE legend John Cena has responded to criticism surrounding the newly announced John Cena Classic Tournament, admitting that even he is unsure whether the unique concept will ultimately succeed. Though not much is known about the tournament, Cena is excited about the prospect of the tournament, but not all online fans are.While speaking to US Weekly, he explained how the John Cena Classic Tournament will pit developmental talent against main-roster stars.
It said that the event will allow fans to vote for a participant who lost to be crowned champion. Cena acknowledged he is unsure whether it will work and called the approach a bold try. He said the event aims to echo his early career and pledged his full effort to make it succeed.During an interview with "US Weekly," Cena discussed the fan attitude saying, "There's a lot of questions, a lot of polarizing attitude, which is great because I'm a polarizing guy," he said.
"Michael Cole called it polarizing, so I like that sort of intrigue heading into this."However, he further added, "We're gonna have a new event. We're gonna crown a new champion, and everyone qualifies for the vote," while also pointing out that there will be more details to come.
Also, Cena believes that fans should have an opportunity to throw their support behind a wrestler even if they didn't win every match. "If you want to vote for the winners, vote for the winners.
That's fine. I just want to let you know that if somebody busts their hump and wins your heart and wins your vote, you can vote for them," the retired WWE star stated.John Cena also acknowledged that he is aware of the skepticism surrounding the concept and admitted that the unconventional format is very different and unique from the traditional wrestling tournaments. "I don't know if it's going to work. It's a bold try. "I can promise you this: You will get my all for this thing, absolutely,” he added.Regardless of the criticism, Cena remains committed to the initiative with a unique twist during the final chapter of his legendary WWE career.
