It’s so satisfying when your tech makes a difference

CAREER LADDER FOR WOMENNandita SainiI started my journey in the technology sector in 1996, after graduating as a computer science engineer. I always had an affinity for science and mathematics, and engineering seemed like the most natural choice during a period when the sector was growing at a rapid pace.

Software was beginning to transform back office, middle office, and front office operations across sectors, and the scale of opportunity was both energising and motivating.Over the years, technological revolutions have impacted the way businesses and consumers engage with technology. Alongside these shifts, I have evolved from building mainframebased applications to overseeing challenging technology programmes in the healthcare industry.

As a leader, I have always believed that innovation should be converted into practical, tangible impact. Even now, the most satisfying experiences are those where technology makes a difference, whether it’s enabling a patient in a rural setting to access a specialist, or it’s facilitating large-scale clinical trials, or assisting researchers in analysing large data sets to speed up discoveries.Learning to manage time & priorities | Like many working parents, I have had to navigate my journey about time and priorities.

The software industry requires dedication, but it also provides meaning and opportunities for development. I am proud of what I have accomplished in my career and of the role model I have been for my children, who have developed into confident and selfreliant young adults with excellent decision-making skills.Investing in oneself | Early in my career, I discovered that being a good leader also means making a good investment in oneself.

I have made time for personal development through reading, travel, photography, learning, and creative activities, which have often been incorporated into family life. These passions have informed my perspective, enhanced my empathy, and allowed me to be a more down-to-earth leader for my teams and customers.

I have also taken time out of corporate life to help with the research and publication of a novel about an important era in modern Indian history, which further emphasised the importance of curiosity and lifelong learning. It’s so satisfying when your tech makes a differenceNandita Saini is associate VP of engineering at GlobalLogic
