Elye Wahi, the Ivory Coast forward currently representing his country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, was arrested less than two weeks before the tournament over allegations of match-fixing, according to The Athletic.

Sources familiar with the matter, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly, said that Wahi is the subject of an ongoing probe. Investigators are examining whether the 23-year-old deliberately received a yellow card while playing for Nice in a Ligue 1 match against Metz on May 17.

Wahi was arrested by French police on May 29, shortly after scoring twice in Nice’s victory over Saint-Etienne, a result that helped the club secure its Ligue 1 status for another season.
