A high-security breach occurred in Jammu on Wednesday evening as a firing incident was reported near Royal Park in the Greater Kailash area. The incident took place during a wedding function attended by National Conference (NC) President and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, along with Jammu & Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary.

The Incident and Injuries

The firing reportedly occurred as both VVIPs were in the process of leaving the private ceremony. While Farooq Abdullah escaped the incident unhurt and is confirmed to be safe, Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary sustained minor splinter injuries. He was immediately provided with medical attention and is reported to be out of danger.

Allah is kind. My father had a very close shave. The details are sketchy at the moment but what is known is that a man with a loaded pistol was able to get within point blank range & discharge a shot. Initial reports from the scene suggest a moment of chaos as the shots rang out, leading to an immediate response from the security details of the two leaders.

Accused Overpowered and Detained

The suspected shooter has been identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal. In a swift intervention, security personnel on duty at the venue managed to overpower the individual before he could cause further harm. Jamwal was taken into custody on the spot and has been shifted to a nearby police station for intensive questioning.

Senior police officials, including top brass from the Jammu & Kashmir Police, have rushed to the Royal Park area to oversee the preliminary investigation.

Investigation and Security Concerns

At this stage, investigators are working to determine the motive behind the firing. It remains unclear whether the shots were specifically aimed at the VVIPs or if the incident was the result of a separate dispute or accidental discharge.

Forensic teams have been called in to examine the site, and the weapon used in the incident has been seized. Given the high profile of the attendees, the security lapse is expected to be viewed with gravity, especially considering the current political climate in the Union Territory.

Current Status

The area has been cordoned off, and a heavy police presence remains deployed around Greater Kailash. A formal statement from the police or the administration regarding the nature of the attack is expected late tonight as the interrogation of the accused progresses.
