A case has been registered against YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders in Andhra Pradesh’s NTR district after they allegedly served chicken biryani meals near a Ganesh pandal in Nandigama while observing the death anniversary of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. Tension gripped the town on Tuesday as devotees objected to the event.

According to the police, YSRCP MLC Mondithoka Arun Kumar, former MLA Mondithoka Jaganmohan Rao, and about 20 others organised the programme at Gandhi Centre. A Ganesh idol has been installed at the location since August 27 and has been drawing large numbers of devotees.

Circle Inspector YVVL Naidu objected to the event being conducted without permission and to the serving of non-vegetarian food near the pandal. However, the leaders went ahead with their plans.

To mark the death anniversary of YS Rajasekhara Reddy, they garlanded his portrait and later distributed chicken biryani to party workers adjacent to the Ganesh mandapam.

The act angered devotees, who lodged complaints with the police. Following this, Sub-Inspector Satakarni registered a case against Arun Kumar, Jaganmohan Rao, and the others involved. Police also removed food containers, water cans, and related materials from the site.
