Minister for SERP and MSMEs Kondapalli Srinivas accused YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of spreading false information regarding the State’s pension distribution system.
In a statement on Friday, Mr. Srinivas alleged that Mr. Jagan was making “baseless and misleading” claims against the government. Terming the allegation that nearly six lakh pensions were removed as a “blatant lie,” the Minister asserted that during the YSRCP government’s term, nearly 11 lakh pensions had been discontinued.
Under the NDA government, pensions were cancelled only in cases where beneficiaries passed away. He said the government had instead expanded welfare coverage by sanctioning pensions to around 2.5 lakh new beneficiaries in the last 22 months, the Minister said.
Mr. Srinivas said that the YSRCP government had spent around ₹91,000 crore on pensions during its five-year tenure. In contrast, the coalition government had already spent a record ₹63,157 crore on pensions in the last 22 months, he added.
